 Modern Awards

Most modern awards commenced from 1 January 2010 and cover most employers already in the national system. Modern awards have been created to try and establish one set of minimum conditions and wage entitlements for employers and employees across Australia who work in the same industries and occupations.  For those in a referring State who, before 1 January 2010, were covered by a state award, these will continue to apply for a period of 12 months from 1 January 2010. After that period, the employers and employees will move onto a relevant modern award and the State award will terminate.  There will be further advice relating to the phasing in of changes to awards commencing from July 2010.
