EMPLOYEE HANDBOOKS
An Employment Handbook outlines those things which are of day to day importance to both your organisation and your team members along with general information as well as significant policies and procedures. Such as harassment, discrimination, workplace health and safety. It should not be a substitute for an employment contract or a full policy however in some circumstances policies and procedures may form part of an employment contract. Our Team Member Handbook is a general guide for you to start with. Every organisation no matter how big or small should have a Team Member (Employee) Handbook or Employment Handbook.
It should be noted that in every instance the use and interpretation of formal policies in making a decision should encompass an individual's situation and circumstances. Whilst we would encourage an organisation to adhere to their policies, a one size fit's all answer is not always appropriate.
e.g. If a long serving team member (8 years+) requested unpaid leave over and above what a policy outlined, discretion should be used by their manager/supervisor and criteria such as; to the team member's length of service, commitment, overall job performance and value to the company - as it would be better to let them take the required time off and return to their position grateful to the company than to lose many years experience for good!
